Jonathan de Lagarde is a creative director and fashion designer working across apparel, culture, and visual storytelling. Raised in New York, with Caribbean roots in the U.S. Virgin Islands and experience living and working in Hong Kong, his perspective is shaped by different cultures, places, and ways of thinking. This openness carries into his creative practice, with a curiosity for materials, design, and the details that give a collection its character.
Over the past two decades, he has held design leadership roles at Nike, FILA, and Diadora, worked with Gap and Pyer Moss, and helped establish independent labels including GAR-DE, which he co-founded, and Arcady, where he led creative direction. As Creative Director and Vice President of Design for Ciara and Russell Wilson's lifestyle brands, he worked closely with them to translate their individual perspectives into collections, campaigns, and brand identities.
Collaboration remains central to Jonathan's practice. He values the exchange of ideas between designers, makers, and people with different perspectives, bringing a hands-on approach to creative development and the finished product. Recent work includes creative direction for Faherty and consulting for Fanatics, where he explores how AI can open up new possibilities for design and visual storytelling. Across these projects, his philosophy remains consistent: find a compelling idea, develop it with care, and make something people connect with.
His work has appeared in Vogue, GQ, The New York Times, L’Officiel Hommes, and Surface. He received the 2023 ACE Award for Sustainability and was invited to compete for the International Woolmark Prize.
